U15 LO4: Evidence of Editing

Unit 14 LO4: Evidence of Editing

Initially I began simply putting the footage we had already collected together and then reviewing it to determine which takes to keep, what needed retaking and which footage would be in the final product.

Next (after finishing the offline edit, putting all my footage together) I edited the length of some pieces of footage to make the scenes run smoother and trim any unnecessary parts.

I then imported all my audio files that would play non-diegetically in the scenes; these would include my voiceover, a piece of (copyright free) fantasy music and an incidental track toward the end of the trailer. I then edited these to coincide with the visuals in the trailer and lowered/increased their volumes where appropriate.

I also added some sound effects to sell the fantasy genre and give the impression that some kind of magic was being used.

I added two black borders (letterboxing) to the top and bottom of the scenes in the trailer to fit the conventions of a 'cinematic' trailer more efficiently and further the suspense in some of the scenes whilst also creating satire in others (comedic moments juxtaposed by a serious undertone).

I soon began to edit the audio to create some more significance in what was being said (e.g. adding a reverb/echo effect to 'The Evil Wizard' line to make its announcement more intimidating and comedic).

Following further audio editing, I started to use the 'de-noise' feature to decrease the effect/prevalence of wind during some of the outdoor scenes so it would be less distracting from the focus of the scene (i.e. dialogue).

Furthermore, in the scene where the (royalty free) background music cuts off and begins again, I used the 'exponential fade' tool to make these cuts more seamless so the audio could fade in and out rather than a hard, audible cut.

Lastly I created a short credits sequence which informs audiences of what the production is called and when it would be releasing as well as its creators/cast.
