U15 LO2: Legal and Ethical

U15: Legal and Ethical

Legal Issues

Copyright - This gives the creator of the work exclusive rights to the use of their product and to adapt, copy, sell or communicate ideas to the work.

To prevent breaching this act I intend to entirely use my own footage, characters, narrative, settings/locations and imagery. This is also inclusive of the soundtrack/incidental music which I can request to use with permission, create my own or use copyright free music for my movie trailer. This therefore, avoids issues with the BBFC.

Intellectual Property Rights - Rights given to the person for their creation in which they hold exclusive rights over their work for a period of time.

Similarly to copyright, everything I use I intend to be entirely of my own, including examples such as footage or the logo. The only potential issue with this would be the soundtrack which can be averted from breaching this act through using my own/copyright free music.

BBFC Regulation: Actors within the product are teenagers therefore, considerations need to be made with what is shown on screen; a possible issue being alcoholic references which could cause problems due to the legal drinking age and regulation on how alcohol is presented by the BBFC. A method of getting around this would be not showing the actors drinking but only holding the bottles. The regulation by the BBFC stating that any who are under 25 cannot be physically drinking however, those under can still be shown holding alcohol.

Ethical Issues

Representation - Not misrepresenting cultures and demographics within the film trailer. An example of a possible misrepresentation within the trailer for Campaigns and Conjurations would be with Kowalski who is a Polish chef therefore, Polish stereotypes or jokes relating to their ethnicity should be avoided.

Misrepresentation can be avoided within my film trailer as culture isn't a relevant subject to the narrative however, this can be further avoided through averting stereotypes, allowing the crew to read the script and not portraying ethnic groups inappropriately via slander, libel or any other form in the trailer.

Age Appropriate - Making the film trailer in a way which follows the BBFC's regulation standards for products intended for an audience of 12+.

Following the BBFC's guidelines for age classification such as the portrayals of threat and violence which will follow the less restrictive guidelines due to the fantasy setting and comical depiction and that it is expected by the audience. This also follows the guidelines of a 12+ product due to no portrayal of drugs, nudity (or anything sexual) or discrimination.

Treatment of Staff/Crew - Those working during filming dates are treat fairly.

Crew, including actors, director and cameraman will be given appropriate attire for the weather and location as well as catering outside of filming to ensure wellbeing of those involved. I have created a call-sheet as well so that each staff member knows how many hours they will be working, what they will be doing, where and when. This ensures that everyone involved can understand what is being asked of them so that they can raise any issues with what is planned before production.

Precautions to Keep Cast & Crew Safe

Before filming, a risk assessment has been produced for each filming location: addressing issues like uneven surfaces in rural locations and traffic hazards in urban areas. This in combination with signed release and consent forms, help to clarify that each involved member of production including their GDPR have been explicitly stated and understood by each person involved.

Unit 15 LO2: Script

Unit 15: Script (Voiceover)

By Oliver Clements

Scene opens with a group of three adventurers walking through an open field.

Salazar:

Are you a wayward band of variously talented and aesthetically unique adventurers looking for your next big quest to help spread democratic and conservative liberation across the wilds of Naitirb? Of course you are! That's why you need a Warlock! - scene cuts to adventurers flailing in the background as Salazar continues (Improvisation).

Scene plays of Parcival agreeing to a Warlock pact with Salazar.

Scene cuts to a high angle shot of Azrael picking a lock and then to a low angle of Parcival holding his hand out to the door which cuts to it magically opening.

Salazar:

Why be a lowly thief, stuck picking locks, when the magical force of an Eldritch blast can force that door open like the insignificant plank of wood that it is?

Scene cuts to Kowalski holding two bottles of alcoholic connotations

Kowalski:

We've got rum! *laughs as shot pauses on his laughing face whilst Salazar speaks. Halfway through the shot cuts to Parcival smugly holding a glass of grape juice.

Salazar:

Cast your drunken, barbaric tendencies aside for a life of cultured and luxurious splendour (smugly) all a tribute to your new magical abilities.

Scene cuts to the group of adventurers face off against another party as they scowl at each other

Salazar:

Show those other lowly parties what hellish magic can do.

Scene plays out as the parties gather to watch a dice roll. Azrael rolls a critical fail and curses, attacking the opponent and failing.

Azrael:

Hells!

Salazar:

Don't curse the hells but embrace their infernal power to smite your enemies with magic that will eternally damn their souls and bind them to the darkest recesses of the underworld's fiery pits whilst they scream in endless agony as their mortal corpses rot in the unrelenting cold of Stygia!

His voice becomes louder and more demonic as he speaks as Parcival attacks an enemy. A cut to the dice rolling in which Salazar magically flips it onto a critical success.

Salazar collects himself and continues as a montage sequence plays of the party walking through various locations

Salazar:

Visit new and exciting locations all across Naitirb from the vast landscapes of Dunriver to the progressively futuristic wonder of Je-Fiel'd in an instant (see) *smugly pointing at the fact the montage cuts between location. Become part of an epic conquest to defeat the most dangerous scourges of this plane like the dastardly indigent that is known only as the 'Evil Wizard'.

Montage sequence ends with the party arriving in the city.

Parcival (muffled):

Evil Wizard! We have come to defeat you! Face us!

The wizard is brushing his teeth and looks up after hearing the shouting, opening the window to see the adventurers.

Parcival:

We shall slay you for your evil acts of wizardry wizard!

The Wizard Exclaims

Evil Wizard:

What?!

The scene suddenly fades to a low angle shot of the adventurers with Parcival stood in the middle atop everyone else, Kowalski is cooking and Azrael is scowling.

Salazar:

So do you think you have what it takes to wield the infernal powers of the nine hells and rebuke your enemies with the fury of Avernus? Then become... a Warlock!

LO2: Treatment

Unit 15 LO2: Treatment

Introduction and Purpose

I have chosen to create a film trailer for a fantasy themed adventure, comedy set in England during the late 1800's which takes inspiration from films such as Monty Python and The Holy Grail; the setting being similar to popular fantasy series like Dungeons and Dragons which are played into to fit the comedy and fantasy genre of the film trailer in which the adventure is what is taking place to move the plot forward. The trailer will be around two minutes as I am making a full trailer, not a teaser trailer.

Target Audience

This trailer would be for an intended audience of males aged between 15-25; ABC1 due to references/influences of other media   like Dungeons & Dragons which require disposable income to afford. However, the trailer can be accessible to C2DE audiences through uploading it onto YouTube to reach the target, digital native, audience. The full product, which will be outlined on the trailer, will release in fall of 2024.

Trailer Plot Summary

Three adventurers are joined together under a common goal (the three together as fellow adventurers before the film) when given a task from an arch devil named Salazar to defeat the renowned and hated (despite being nameless for a comedic scene) evil arch mage who dwells in the dark city; this city setting will be Sheffield. The party members are Parcival (A warlock), Azrael (a rogue/thief) and Kowalski (A barbarian). However, Salazar is Parcival's patron and therefore, owns his soul and if they complete this quest, Parcival's souls shall be free and the other members will be given what they desire most. In the rogue's case this would be money and for the barbarian, rare cooking ingredients as he's a dedicated chef who wants to always cook something on the journey. This arch devil joins them on their quest as a 4th party member to use the adventurers' journey as marketing material for Warlocks and why people should become them.

This could also be altered for humour in that the warlock has a different patron but risks selling his soul again (despite not having one, claiming he'd have nothing to lose anyways) to this new arch devil  if the party is to fail, each again being offered what they most desire.

After the introduction to the film's premise, a montage of various moments from what would happen in the film at various scenes occur such as a battle with another party in which everyone stops what they're doing to roll a dice they all look at together in a high angle, everyone's heads together, to see what number the dice rolls.

Time Scale

Production/filming will start in mid-April due to the warmer and  sunnier weather allowing for easier filming as well as natural high-key lighting in outside locations. This follows pre-production and planning which began on the 1st March 2024 and filming with editing is scheduled to be complete between May and June.

Contingency

Contingencies for filming would be to move filming schedules onto other days if certain members of cast and crew cannot attend on a planned date or if weather is unfavorable however, in the latter scenario, indoor segments can be filmed instead. In the event of resources failing such as the camera or editing software, a phone with capcut can be used instead. Within documentation and production of a script, blogger can be used instead of Microsoft word and vice versa.
